Adult Adoption
In Florida, an adult can adopt another adult, i.e., an individual over 18 years of age. For example, a step-parent can adopt the adult children of his/her spouse, or a teacher can decide to adopt a student. It does not matter whether or not the parents of the adult being adopted are alive. The fact that the person being adopted is an adult, under the law, allows that adult to make the decision to be adopted by another adult.
